Freedom Magazine has a great article about Dr. Sayyid Muhammad Syeed of Kashmir, in India.
Syeed met Mohatma Ghandi when he was 6 years old. A Muslim (as opposed to Ghandi, who was a Hindu) he decided to follow in Ghandi's footsteps. He was incarcerated and tortured for his efforts. He obtained his freedom with the help of Amnesty International. He now leads an American Muslim group that supports democratic ideals and education.
It's a great read.
